Day 2: Genocide Memorial Centre visit and transfer to Nyungwe National Park

You will wake up to a morning breakfast at the hotel, and then be assisted to check out. Head to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre for the tour that will enlighten you about the genocide that happened in 1994. However, good news is that after this horrible happening, Rwanda is going through a significant growth and development.

From here, you will set off to Nyungwe National Park with a stopover at the café for a cup of coffee, and arrival at the lodge in the afternoon, have a late lunch and relax. Later in the evening, have your dinner, prepare for the next days’ activities and rest.

Day 3: Tea experience and Ziplining/Canopy Walk

After having breakfast at your lodge, you will head out for the tea experience at one of the plantations around Nyungwe. This activity gives you a chance to learn about tea including how it is harvested and the next stages of processing it. The tea experience will be followed by a transfer to the park headquarters where you will be briefed about the adventures you opt to do – canopy walk or ziplining or both.

These adventures will last for about 4 hours, after which you will return to the lodge and rest. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 4: Chimpanzee trekking

Like most days, this will also start early, with a morning breakfast. Head to the park offices for briefing and later enter into the forest for chimp trekking. The trek takes you through varying altitudes with scenic views of the vast forested surrounding. When you finally find the chimpanzees, you will stay with them for an hour and thereafter get back to meet your driver to return to the lodge. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

You would have had enough rest overnight and get back on the road on this day for a transfer to Musanze. Arrive in time for lunch, check in to your lodge for lunch and relax.

Optional evening activities include visiting the Ellen campus, the village walk, cultural experiences and later dinner at the lodge.

Day 6: Gorilla trekking

An early morning breakfast at your lodge, then drive to the park offices for briefing, and set off for gorilla trekking. The trek can last for 2 to 4 hours or more depending on how far the gorillas will have moved. Once you spot them, you will spend an hour with them and watch how they feed, and play among others, and you will later leave the forest. On arrival at the lodge, you will have lunch and rest.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

With an option to go golden monkey trekking this morning, you will be leaving Musanze, driving northwards to Bwindi. When you arrive at the lodge, you will check in and relax. You could head out for a community tour in the evening, stay at the lodge relaxing or enjoy the cultural performance at the lodge.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest

Gorilla trekking in Bwindi, just like in Volcanoes is conducted in the morning as this is the best time to easily find the primates. It starts with a briefing at the park offices of the sector where you are trekking and later, you are led to enter the forest and search for the allocated gorilla family. When they are found, guests are allowed to stay in the presence of the gorillas for a maximum of one hour before exiting the forest. Drive back to the lodge for lunch and later enjoy the views and serenity of the lodge for the evening. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 9: Drive to Entebbe for departure flight

Your 9 days safari ends with a long drive from Bwindi to Entebbe. You will have a stop over in Mbarara for lunch and another in Kayabwe for the equator experience. Then proceed to Entebbe where you will be dropped off for your flight back home.
