8 Days Rwanda and Uganda Wildlife and Chimps Safari

Major destinations: Akagera National Park, Queen Elizabeth National Park, Kalinzu Forest and Lake Mburo National Park

8 days safari is a somewhat long tour that will allow you to explore the above destinations and enjoy the scenic drives while connecting from one destination to another. While most activities of the safari will take you gave viewing, the trek through Kalinzu Forest offers a chance to watch chimpanzees and a few other primate species.

Brief Safari Schedule

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kigali
  • Day 2: City tour and transfer to Akagera National Park
  • Day 3: Full day in Akagera National Park
  • Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
  • Day 5: Full day in Queen Elizabeth National Park
  • Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu Forest and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

On this first day of your safari, you will be met by our company representative upon your arrival in Kigali. They will transfer you to your hotel in Kigali for your next stay. Check in, refresh and rest and before embarking on your adventure the next day.

Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park

After breakfast, you will set off to Akagera National Park. The journey will take you about 2.5 hours to reach the park. Drive to the lodge, have lunch, and go on an afternoon game drive where you will have a chance to see various wildlife such as buffalos, zebras, lions, elephants, and giraffes among sothers.

Day 3: Full day in Akagera safari

You have this day to explore Akagera National Park to the fullest. Activities available to do include a morning game drive, a boat ride on Lake Ihema or a guided nature walk. According to our program, you will go for the morning game drive, have lunch at noon and enjoy the launch cruise in the afternoon.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park via Mirama Hills

Enjoy your breakfast in preparation of the journey to Queen Elizabeth National Park in Uganda. This road transfer takes you via Mirama Hills after crossing the border from Rwanda to Uganda before proceeding to the park. You will have an enroute lunch and arrive at the lodge in time for dinner. Check in and rest. 

Day 5: Full day Queen Elizabeth safari, Morning game drive and afternoon boat cruise

The day will start with an early breakfast before heading out to to explore Queen Elizabeth National Park. The morning game drive gives a chance to see antelopes, buffaloes, elephants, lions and leaopards while the afternoon boat cruise allows to see hippos, crocodiles and various bird species.

Day 6: Chimpanzee trekking in Kalinzu and transfer to Lake Mburo National Park

After enjoying your breakfast, you will go on a guided chimpanzee trekking excursion in Kalinzu Forest Reserve. It is a chance to see a community of habituated chimpanzees as well as enjoy the views of the surrounding scenery.

After trekking, you will transfer to Lake Mburo National Park. The road transfer will take you approximately 4 hours before arriving at the park. Have lunch and embark on an evening game drive.

Day 7: Full day Lake Mburo safari

One more game drive in the morning to see animals that you may have missed on the evening game drive. Alternatively, you can go for horse-back riding. These activities give a chance to see wildlife such as impalas, zebras, giraffes, and waterbucks. In the afternoon, you will go for a boat cruise.

Day 8: Drive to Entebbe for departure flight

At leisure, enjoy your breakfast before embarking on the journey to Entebbe for your departure flight. The journey will take you approximately 4 hours.
