5 Days Uganda and Rwanda Gorilla Trekking

Major destinations: Kigali, Volcanoes National Park, Bwindi and Lake Bunyonyi

This is a somewhat short adventure taking you to two awesome destinations, the popular homes for the mountain gorillas in the world – Bwindi and Volcanoes National Parks. The trip is meant to start in Kigali, and then stroll through the hills to Musanze for the first gorilla trek. Next, you will have the last 2 nights in southern Uganda where you will also do the second gorilla trek, and the trip will end in Entebbe.

Brief Safari Schedule

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
  • Day 2: Gorilla trekking in Volcanoes 
  • Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi
  • Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
  • Day 5: Canoe drive, and transfer to Entebbe

Detailed itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Start in Kigali where you will meet your safari driver for this 5 Days tour. You are expected to arrive at the Kigali International Airport by noon as you will transfer to Musanze on the same day. You can have lunch in Kigali and drive to Musanze, and on arrival, you will check in and rest.

Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 2: Gorilla trekking (optional village walk/cultural experience)

As you drive from the lodge to the park offices, you will come across people from the local community going for their daily duties. On arrival at the offices, you can get a cup of coffee as you wait for briefing before you hit the trails into the forest. You will be led by the park ranger guide and have porters to assist you carry your bags. Once you find the mountain gorillas, you will have an hour to watch and learn about them and their behavior.

From here, drive back to the lodge, have lunch and relax. In the evening, you can head out for a village walk or enjoy the cultural entertainment.  Dinner and overnight at your lodge.

 

Day 3: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

By this morning, you will have had enough rest following the trek. The day starts with breakfast at the lodge. Meanwhile, you can opt to go for golden monkey trekking before transiting to Bwindi. You will arrive at your lodge in Bwindi in the afternoon, check in, have lunch and relax. Alternatively, you can engage the evening by going for bird watching or a village walk. Prepare for the next day’s gorilla trek, have dinner and rest. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 4: Gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, transfer to Lake Bunyonyi

By 8am, you will be at the park offices of the sector where you are trekking. After the briefing and gorilla family allocation, get on the trails and enter the forest, search for the gorillas and enjoy every bit of the exploration of this place. You are allowed to stay with the gorillas for one hour, after finding them, and later leave the forest. Meet your driver guide, go for lunch and drive to Lake Bunyonyi. Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 5: Canoe ride and drive to Entebbe for departure flight

As an adventure, you will just not have much time to relax on this safari. This day will start with a short canoe ride on the beautiful Lake Bunyonyi. It offers lovely views of the islands, the Virunga volcanoes and the hills all around. After the calm ride on the lake, you will hit the road for a transfer to Entebbe where you will arrive in the evening.
