5 Days Rwanda Gorilla Safari

5 days in Rwanda is enough to get you on an adventure in the Volcanoes National Park for gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking and insightful exploring the rest of the surrounding.  First, you will have a short city tour, followed by a drive to the northwest of Rwanda which comes with scenic views of the region, then the treks and other activities around Musanze. This 5 Days Rwanda tour is will start and end in Kigali.

Brief safari schedule

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport and successfully going through the immigration, you will meet our company representative who will lead you to the driver guide. Set off to your booked hotel in Kigali, have a short briefing of your tour and be left to relax.

Dinner and overnight at the hotel. Meal plan: dinner.

Day 2: City tour and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Wake up to a morning breakfast at your hotel and drive to the Genocide Memorial site in Kigali. The tour takes you through different rooms of the building explaining the genesis of the 1994 Rwanda genocide, the details of horrible killings and the subsequent ways the government and people of Rwanda have united to stay one in peace and to ensure never to have genocide again. The tour will be followed by a drive out of Kigali to Musanze. Overnight at your booked lodge. Meal plan: Fullboard. 

Day 3: Gorilla trekking and visit to the Ellen DeGeneres Campus

Musanze often starts with cold mornings, and with the volcanoes covered with mist; the views are fabulous. Enjoy your early morning breakfast at the lodge, and transfer to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking. Thereafter, set off for the lifetime adventure. The ranger guide will help you to search for the gorillas, and once they are found, you will spend an hour with them, just before leaving the forest back to your lodge.

 

In the afternoon, you can visit Ellen DeGeneres Campus to learn more about the gorillas and conservation. You will later have your dinner and overnight at your lodge.

Day 4: Twin lakes boat trip and village walk

You will have a leisurely breakfast at the lodge and later head out for the boat tour on Lake Burera. While sailing on the lake, you will enjoy views of the islands, the Virunga volcanoes and also see lake Ruhondo. On arrival at the Peace Haven Island, you will participate in some of the games there and later return to the mainland. Lunch at the lodge and go for the village walk which starts with an experience of the traditional way of cooking, a visit of the local people with an entertainment of local music and a cultural dance.

In the evening, you will return to the lodge for dinner and the overnight stay.

Day 5: Golden monkey trekking and drive back to Kigali

A visit to volcanoes National park is a great opportunity to see the golden monkeys. On this last day of your safari, you have a chance to see these beautiful primates before returning to Kigali for your departure. Unlike gorilla trekking, golden monkey trekking lasts shorter. You will meet several of them around the bamboo trees, have an hour with them, leave the forest and set off to Kigali.
